AN action-adventure movie depicting the final days of Britain’s colonisation of Myanmar is being planned by the maker of the French blockbuster movie, Brotherhood of the Wolves, according to the Variety magazine. In its Cannes Film Festival edition, released Tuesday last week, the magazine reported that French director Christophe Gans would develop the film. Variety quoted Richard Grandpierre, head of France’s StudioCanal film subsidiary Eskwad, as saying the movie would be in English, to guarantee its market as "a truly international adventure pic".
Mr Grandpierre said Gans, who also made the English-language action film Crying Freeman, would start shooting the US$30 million film in London, Paris and Myanmar next year. It would be titled The Adventurer, and be based on a bestselling series of French novels, "The Adventures of Bob Morane", which documented the trials and triumphs of a retired French air force major and World War II hero turned roving reporter who battles his arch-nemesis, ‘The Yellow Shadow’, he said. "The film will be very phantasmagoric with lots of action, but taking place against the backdrop of a real episode in history, the end of Britain’s colonisation of (Myanmar)," Gans said. – AFP
